Brickworks Chimney, Rosewell. Completed last June & installed in February. Sculptural entrance piece for a new housing development on the outskirts of Rosewell, Midlothian. A stylised representation of Whitehill Brickworks which was part of Whitehill Colliery. 🎉Happy 135th Birthday to the Forth Bridge! 🎉 On 4 March 1890, the rail bridge was opened by the Prince of Wales. Honoured to have our work both inspired by and in the presence of this most magnificent iconic bridge. The steel cantilever bridge was designed by John Fowler and Benjamin Baker. The pair were tasked with creating a structure that was tall enough for large ships to pass under and strong enough to withstand galeforce winds and the weight of heavy freight trains. The frame to hold the tableau is formed and we are now working on the legs to hold it all up in the air. Refurbished Gateway signs to South Queensferry. Originally designed and made at Ratho Byres Forge back in 2001, the three gateway signs have had a makeover. A little leafy & tendril handrail created last week by Shona & Jake Strorey. Drawn up full size onto boards & a mock up of the steps made which actually helped a lot as it was curving as it headed up the steps, curving on the top landing and sweeping around off the bottom step. Took it for a dry fit today, which we don't do very often, fitted perfectly and looks sweet. Now to galvanise and paint before the final fit in a few weeks time.

Today we say a fond farewell to Minty aka Murray Holmes, as he heads off to London in the new year to work in one of the historic London boat yards. Minty came to us in 2022 while still at school aged 15, for work experience 2 days a week. On leaving school at 16, Minty applied for and was awarded a Craft Fellowship with Historic Environmental Scotland. HES paid Minty's wage and he continued to come to Ratho Byres Forge to gain training and experience as a blacksmith. As part of the Craft Fellowship with HES, Minty also attended

A recently installed sculptural entrance feature to a new housing development at Craighill Village to the east of Edinburgh. "Keys to the Future" is a series of four very large sculptural seeds, representing the Sycamore seeds that have spiralled down to earth to find a place to germinate. These seeds are known as “Keys”, while the Sycamore tree represents protection and resilience, it is one of the few trees whose seeds will germinate under the “parent”.
