Looking for an opportunity to experience hands on artist blacksmithing?

Artist Blacksmiths, P. Johnson & Company, continue their highly successful & extremely popular weekend & mid week recreational blacksmithing courses at Ratho Byres Forge throughout Spring 2015. Each course covers a wide range of techniques, skills and abilities and is suitable for both the absolute beginner and those with previous experience. The student will work out of the fire, at the anvil, learning to use both a hand held hammer and a power hammer, the end result being an item forged by the student which can be taken home. Basic skills are taught the first day and the students own idea is developed, with help, the second day. We have had a wide variety of people attending these courses from scallop fishermen, to architects, housewives, to sculptors, nurses and doctors to youngsters still at school. All those who have taken part in our courses have left not only tired & grubby having learnt new skills & developed an understanding for the malleability of metal but have also been involved in forging something for themselves to take home and treasure.

There are 2 spaces available per course, taught by Master Blacksmith Pete Hill FWCB.  Each student works at their own fire & anvil & tuition is very much hands on.
